Pittsburgh’s rivers and hills make it one of the best locations for dragon boating anywhere. We have a growing and vibrant dragon boating community.
Teams
Pittsburgh has a variety of welcoming dragon boat teams:
- Steel City Dragons organization with facilities in the Fox Chapel Yacht Club complex and with multiple teams, including:
- Steel City Mixed Dragons Mixed, a team of adult men and women 18 and over.
- Pink Steel breast cancer paddler (BCP) team founded in 2005
- Pittsburgh Unity all cancer paddler (ACP) team founded in 2024
- Pittsburgh Paddlefish mixed team based at Three Rivers Rowing Association
- Hearts of Steel BCP team based at Three Rivers Rowing Association
Events
- Pittsburgh Dragon Boat Festival, which is held each year in September at North Park Lake.

Team Pittsburgh
Team Pittsburgh was put together from paddlers across the area’s teams in order to compete in top level dragon boat racing events events in 2007 and 2010. It won its first race, the Philadelphia Independence Dragon Boat Regatta, and promoted camaraderie among racers from the two Pittsburgh dragon boat organizations.
